Taylor Builder's Edition 324ce electro acoustic guitar

New product

Crafted for the ultimate playing experience, the Builder's Edition 324ce combines signature Taylor playability and comfort with the rich tonal character of our responsibly sourced Urban Ash tonewood. Originating from Shamel ash trees in need of removal from cities and municipal areas, Urban Ash offers a response akin to high-grade mahogany: warm and woody with a strong focus on the fundamental note and minimal overtones. The solid mahogany top adds a bit of natural compression to help create remarkable tonal balance across the frequency spectrum. For comfort, this Grand Auditorium model sports a beveled armrest and cutaway, chamfered edges, and our Silent Satin finish to reduce incidental noise. It ships with a deluxe brown hardshell case.

Grand Auditorium
  • Body Length: 20" / Body Width: 16" / Body Depth: 4 5/8"
  • Taylor's signature shape embodies the ultimate all-purpose acoustic.
  • An original Bob Taylor design introduced in 1994
  • Full in the lower register, present in the midrange, and sparkling on the treble strings
  • The most popular shape and a good place to begin your search

The mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpicker’s guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the GA was designed to deliver on both fronts. The shape produced an original acoustic voice that was big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GA’s overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. Many people want a single guitar that can cover a variety of styles, which is why the GA continues to be our bestselling shape. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional GA won’t let you down.

Urban Ash

The Urban Ash, also known as Shamel or evergreen ash, reflects Taylor’s commitment to finding more sustainable, responsible ways to source tonewoods from within our local region. This ash is supplied by West Coast Arborists, Inc., a company that provides tree maintenance and management services to cities across California. Trees that eventually need to be removed due to age, safety concerns and other factors traditionally have had very little end-of-life market value. Our use of Urban Ash can create more value for these trees and support efforts to re-green city infrastructure.

Tonally, Urban Ash’s properties—comparable to high-quality Honduran mahogany—make it a strong contender as a high-grade guitar wood of the future. With its focused, fundamental-strong voice, it produces clean notes mostly free of ringing overtones—the note you play is the note you’ll hear. This makes it supremely adaptable to the particular style of the player. Compared to the “swamp” ash used by electric guitar makers, this species is heavier, denser and more resonant, but not nearly as heavy as the Northern ash used for baseball bats.

Goes Well With: Fingerstyle players seeking an articulate sound unclouded by overtones, or generalists looking for an all-purpose sound that can be molded to perform across genres and styles. It’s also a versatile tonewood option for singer-songwriters and players looking to cut through a mix with a group of musicians.

Tropical Mahogany

Harder, denser woods like mahogany and koa that are used on the back and sides of a guitar are sometimes used as tops. Their stiffness initially translates into a bright tone and tends to need more play-in time to open up, but the more a mahogany-top guitar is played, the more it develops overtones that contribute to a fuller, richer sound. A mahogany-top guitar might appeal to rootsy players who like a little extra punchiness in their tone.
Goes Well With: Blues and roots players, anyone who likes an slightly more burly or punchy quality to their tone.

Expression System 2
The Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar.

V-Class Bracing

V-Class bracing is a revolutionary new pattern — a new sonic engine — that marks a major shift away from traditional steel-string bracing patterns. By allowing the soundboard to flex naturally while maintaining rigidity along the center (in the direction of the strings), V-Class helps enhance the volume and sustain. It also creates a more orderly response from the soundboard. Up and down the fretboard, notes are full, true and consistent, with more harmonic agreement. It represents an entirely new design platform that can be adapted to different body styles in different ways to infuse each with a unique sonic personality.

Beveled Cutaway
It features a compound design with a smoothened edge along the corner of the body between the end of the cutaway and the neck heel, providing a more comfortable feel for the fretting hand. The new cutaway design also incorporates a finger bevel on the guitar’s top, a resting surface for the pinky finger near the highest frets of the guitar. Together, these elements allow the player to reach the entire fretboard without changing hand positions.
